Avalide (Generic)

Do not take irbesartan & hydrochlorothiazide if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking irbesartan & hydrochlorothiazide, call your doctor immediately. Irbesartan & hydrochlorothiazide may harm the fetus.
This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure.

Take with or without food. Take with food if this medicine causes an upset stomach. Take irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide exactly as directed.

Dizziness is common.
Lightheadedness. Avoid driving, doing other tasks or activities that require you to be alert until you see how this medicine affects you.
Low potassium. This may make you feel tired, weak, or have numbness, tingling, muscle cramps, constipation, vomiting, or rapid heartbeats.
Irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

DO NOT TAKE IF
If you have an allergy to another thiazide, a sulfonamide drug, hydrochlorothiazide, irbesartan, or any other part of the medicine. If you are allergic to another angiotensin receptor antagonist.
Disease of the vessels (arteries) that take blood to the kidney, primary hyperaldosteronism, severe kidney disease.
If you are more than 12 weeks pregnant.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Irbesartan lowers blood pressure by preventing a strong chemical in the body from increasing blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)is a diuretic that acts to get rid of extra salt & water in the body by acting on the kidneys and passing it out through urine.

STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted

Wear disease medical alert identification for high blood pressure.
You can get sunburned more easily. Avoid lots of sun.
Watch for gout attacks.
Do not use over-the-counter products that increase blood pressure. These include cough or cold remedies, diet pills, stimulants, ibuprofen or like products, and certain herbs or supplements.
Tell healthcare provider if you are allergic to any medicine.
Tell healthcare provider if you are breast-feeding.
