Antibiotics » Clindamycin (klin-da-MYE-sin )

CLINDAMYCIN is an antibiotic or antiinfective.

Take clindamycin capsules by mouth. It is best to take clindamycin 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating; take the capsules with a full glass of water. Do not lie down for 1—2 hours after taking clindamycin to avoid irritation to your throat.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to clindamycin, lincomycin, tartrazine yellow dye, aspirin or if you have any other allergies.

Nausea
Vomiting
Upset stomach
Rash/Itching
Swelling
Dizziness
Breathing Difficulties

If any of these Symptoms persist/worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Before using this medication, inform your doctor all prescription & nonprescription / herbal products you may use, especially of :

Erythromycin
Kaolin-pectin
Live bacterial vaccines.

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have these symptoms because these products may make them worse.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Clindamycin is indicated in the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria

Clindamycin is also indicated in the treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of streptococci, pneumococci, and staphylococci. Its use should be reserved for penicillin allergic patients or other patients for whom, in the judgment of the physician, a penicillin is inappropriate.

Store at room temperature between 15—30 degrees C (59—86 degrees F)

Before using this medication, inform your doctor of your medical history.

Clindamycin may increase the effects of certain drugs used during surgery (neuromuscular blockers such as pancuronium, tubocurarine).

Inform your doctor if you are going to be having any surgeries while using this medication.
