Descriptions

Mebeverine; an antimuscarinic, belongs to a group of compounds known as musculotropic antispasmodics.

Colospa relaxes the smooth muscle in the gut by its direct action on it, preventing nerve signals going to the intestine muscles which causes the gut muscle to relax, preventing painful muscle spasm(s).

Uses

Colospa (Mebeverine) provides relief from:

abdominal pain
cramps
bloating, wind
diarrhoea/constipation, which are associated with irritable bowel syndrome.

Colospa is used in case of primary irritable colon due to:
persistent diarrhoea
alternating constipation and diarrhoea
abdominal pain
postprandial distension.

Secondary irritable colon due to:
organic lesions (like regional enteritis, diverticulitis, specific and non-specific inflammatory conditions of the GI tract).

Mebeverine, also an inhibitor of calcium-depot replenishment, has a dual mode of action which normalizes the small bowel motility.

How To Use

It is recommended to be taken before a meal.
