Dostinex (Generic)

Cabergoline (Dostinex®) is used to treat high levels of prolactin, a hormone made by the body that affects such things as the menstrual cycle, breast milk production, fertility, and sexual function. Cabergoline also treats high levels of prolactin which occur with certain tumors such as adenomas.

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. You may want to mark on a calendar which days you are supposed to take this medicine.

Always report side effects to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome:
•constipation
•diarrhea
•dizziness
•drowsiness
•dry mouth
•headache
•indigestion
•low blood pressure
•nervousness
•pain in stomach or abdomen
•pain with menstruation
•swelling in ankles
•tiredness

Tell your physician or health care provider about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

This medication is sometimes used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease or restless-legs syndrome.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicines that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of high blood pressure. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses AND contact your doctor.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. Protect from light and moisture. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS. Using this medicine alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines cause dizziness. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.
