Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine is a synthetic compound consisting of Levothyroxine sodium, and is administered in the treatment of Hypothyroidism [underactive thyroid glands] to infants as well as adults.
When there is an inadequate secretion of the thyroid hormones – L-triiodothyronine [T3] and thyroxine [T4], the body’s metabolism slows down. Thyroid Treatment with Generic Levothroid is then initiated to regularize the hormone supply so that the body functions normally.
Besides containing Levothyroxine sodium, Levothroid contains a few inactive ingredients – magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, calcium phosphate, povidone and dibasic, besides a number of color additives to distinguish each of its 12 strengths [25mcg-300mcg]. |

|  | How to use Levothroid LevothyroxineThe Levothroid dosage is individualized, depending upon age and weight, besides other medical conditions and medications being taken. It is a single dose, and has to be taken at least 30-60 minutes before breakfast.
Babies and small children who cannot swallow the Levothroid tablets, can be given the medicine by crushing the tablet and mixing it in 1-2 teaspoonfuls of water, which has to be fed immediately with a spoon or dropper. This mixture should not be stored.
