Uses

LOFIBRA is used to treat adults with high triglycerides when diet and exercise alone are not enough to lower triglycerides and raise high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).

How To Use

Take fenofibrate capsules by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the capsules with a drink of water.

Side Effects

The most common complaints include upset stomach, back pain, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.
In rare cases, LOFIBRA may cause unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or soreness. Let your doctor know right away if you have these symptoms, especially if you also are tired or have a fever.
Visit your prescriber or health care professional for regular checks on your progress. Your blood fats and other tests will be measured from time to time.

Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Storage

Store at room temperature below 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed.

Interaction

Ask your doctor if you have any questions about your medications. Be sure to mention any other medications you are taking so he/she can make sure they work well together.

•cyclosporine
•medicines used to treat diabetes
•other medications used to lower cholesterol, like cholestyramine, atorvastatin, cerivastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin or simvastatin
•ursodiol
•warfarin
•went yeast

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

Precaution

Fenofibrate may cause drowsiness. Driving or operating machinery, or performing other tasks that require mental alertness requires caution when first starting fenofibrate. If you are going to have surgery, tell your prescriber or health care professional that you are taking fenofibrate.

Notes

LOFIBRA should not be used in patients with gallbladder disease, liver disease, or severe kidney disease. Those who have had a bad reaction to LOFIBRA or fenofibrate should not take this medication. Fenofibrate can increase your sensitivity to the sun and you may burn more easily. Fenofibrate is only part of a total cholesterol-lowering program. Your health care professional or dietician can suggest a low-cholesterol and low-fat diet that will reduce your risk of getting heart and blood vessel disease.
