Retrovir (Generic)

Zidovudine is an NRTI(nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor).

Take this medicine exactly as directed. Swallow whole with a glass of water, maybe taken with or without food.

Zidovudine is used in combination with other anti-virus medicine for the treatment of HIV infection.

Consult your prescriber about the dosing and use of this medication in children, as dosing is based on body weight.

Inform your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following side effects or any other symptoms which seem severe/persistent.

Unusual Bleeding
Fever/Chills
Unusual Weakness
Amphotericin B(injection)
Antithyroid Agents
Convulsions
Diarrhea
Breathing Difficulties
Sores
Mood Changes
Muscle Tenderness/Weakness
Nausea
Weight loss
Skin Discoloration

Inform your prescriber if you are allergic to any medication in any form and if you are currently taking any medication while on a course with this medicine.

No specific signs have been identified following acute over dosage with Zidovudine. Haemodialysis & peritoneal dialysis appear to have to have effect on the removal of Zidovudine while elimination of its primary metabolite, GZDV is enhanced.

Inform your health care professional if you drink alcohol-containing beverages, suffer from anemia, have any dental/kidney/liver diseases, if you have had any Chemotherapy/Radiation therapy recently.

Zidovudine may cause blood problems, so be careful about cuts and abrasions, and whilst brushing your teeth and gums, as they may take longer to heal and risk of infection is greater.

Take exactly as directed, do not double dose to make up for a missed dose. Record the missed dose and inform your doctor about your missed dose.

It is an antiviral drug used to treat the HIV infection. It is not a cure for HIV or related infections.

Store at room temperature between 15 degree C and 25 degrees C (59 degree and 77 degrees F) away from light and moisture.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, think you are and if you are breast feeding.

Caregivers for younger children should monitor them closely and inform any inconsistenies to the doctor immediately.

It is very important that you keep all your appointments and visit your doctor to check your progress at regular visits. This medicine may cause blood problems.

It is best to avoid sexual contact, and do not share needles with anyone.
