Acyclovir treats certain types of viral infections, manily herpes.

Tablets / Capsules : Swallow whole with a glass of water and take exactly as prescribed.

Cream : Wash and dry the affected area(s). Wash your hands thoroughly before and after every application. Gently rub in the cream on the affected area(s) until absorbed, do not cover with a dressing unless specifically directed to do so by your prescriber.

Thirst
Skin Irritation/Rash/Hives
Tremors/Weakness

Acyclovir Cream :
Cracked lips
Flaking/Dry Skin
Burning/Irritation in areas of application
Skin Rash/Hives
Breathing Difficulties

If you notice any of the symptoms listed above or any other symptoms which are severe/persistent contact your doctor immediately.

Contact a pediatrician for use of this medication in children.

Inform your health care professional if you are allergic to the formulation of this medicine or any other medicine in any other form.

Aids/HIV medication
Fosphenytoin
Probenecid
Phenytoin

Also, inform your prescriber if you are taking any medication whilst starting a course with this medication.

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

Inform your prescriber if you suffer from Neurological Disorders/Seizures
Dehydration
Any Kidney Diseases
Trying to get pregnant

If cream gets in your eyes, wash out with cool tap water.

Tablets / Capsules : Do not double doses to make up for a missed dose.

Cream : Do not double applications to make up for the misses application. Apply as soon as you remember it or continue with the next scheduled application.

It treats Herpes infections of the skin, lip, genitals, shingles & chickenpox. Oral acyclovir decreases the frequency / severity of recurring sores.

Tablets / Capsules : Store at room temperature between 15° & 25°C.

Cream : Store at room temperature between 15 & 25 degrees C.

Drink lots of fluids.

If your symptoms do not improve in a weeks time, consult your prescriber.

Genital herpes, an STD, can still be passed on to your partner, acyclovir does not stop your partner from being infected. Avoid sexual treatment whilst being treated for the same.

Inform your doctor if you are breast feeding or pregnant, or if you are allergic to this medication or any of its ingredients.
